With over three decades of experience in healthcare, as a successful physician, and as the 18th Surgeon General of the United States, Regina has extensive knowledge and depth of experience required to support pandemic response services.
Before becoming “America’s Doctor,” she served her patients at the rural health clinic she founded in Alabama, keeping the clinic in operation even after the damage and destruction caused by Hurricanes Georges (1998) and Katrina (2005) and devastating fire on New Year’s Day (2006). In 2009, she was appointed the 18th Surgeon General of the United States and as a Medical Director in the regular corps of the Public Health Service. During her tenure, Dr. Benjamin released the first National Prevention Strategy.
